Miami-Dade Officer Arrested for Domestic Altercation Involving Cheeseburger

Miami-Dade, FL - A police officer has been arrested for allegedly throwing a cheeseburger and striking his wife during a domestic incident at a South Florida residence last week.

According to police, 34-year-old Andres Perez, a Miami-Dade police officer, was arrested in Miramar on Thursday after reportedly throwing a McDonald's cheeseburger at his wife and striking her in the head.

Officers from the Miramar Police Department were dispatched to the couple's residence shortly before 6 p.m. in response to a domestic disturbance call.

The victim told responding officers that she and her husband, identified as Officer Perez, engaged in an argument involving financial matters and infidelity; and that the verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation.

According to the victim's account, Perez entered the kitchen, threw a McDonald's cheeseburger at her, and punched her on the right side of her head.

Perez was taken into custody and charged with one count of battery. His bail was set at $1,000.

Miami-Dade Police Interim Director Stephanie Daniels released a statement regarding the arrest, stating, "It is disheartening to learn that one of my officers was arrested for a domestic violence incident, that occurred while he was off duty. Police Officers are held to a higher standard; this type of behavior will not be tolerated. Any actions that may hinder the public’s confidence in law enforcement is unacceptable."

The statement did not confirm the specifics of Thursday's assault or potential consequences.
