Anna Maria Island, FL - A man was rushed to the hospital on Sunday after a shark bit him during a boating excursion near Anna Maria Island.
The West Manatee Fire District received a report of the attack at approximately 3:40 p.m. after a 22-year-old man who was boating with friends was attacked by a shark on Bean Point.
Authorities learned of the attack while Fire Rescue personnel were in the process of transferring individuals injured in a boat crash onto ambulances when a boater arrived with the injured man on board.
The man was quickly transported to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, the sole Level II trauma center in Manatee County.
Currently, there's no further information available regarding the man's current condition.
Bean Point, located at the north tip of Anna Maria Island in the city of Anna Maria, protrudes into the Gulf of Mexico.
Authorities and beach safety officials will continue to monitor the situation and ensure appropriate measures are in place to ensure the safety of beachgoers and boaters in the region.
