The city of Palm Beach Gardens approved an ordinance Thursday night to ban adult arcades.

The city council voted to pass a ban on places that often offer illegal gambling operations. It bans people from owning and operating a simulated gambling device not authorized for legal use.

Violators can face $2,000 fines for a first offense.

The ordinance was proposed after several arcades in Florida were shut down in May following raids by the Florida Gaming Control Commission. Those were in Delray Beach, Fort Pierce and elsewhere around the state.

During those raids, more than 1 million dollars in cash, assets, and machines were seized.
