Toddler Fatally Shot, Arrest Made as Broward County Launches Investigation

Broward County, FL - A man has been arrested after a 2-year-old child was fatally shot at a South Florida apartment complex on Saturday.

Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) detectives are investigating the shooting that resulted in the death the child at an apartment complex located near the 500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, just east of Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach.

Authorities announced the arrest of Lius Appolon in connection with Saturday's shooting.

According to police, deputies responded to a shooting call around 2 p.m., however the quick response by deputies was not enough to save the young child, who was airlifted to a nearby hospital by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and tragically pronounced dead.

BSO's Crime Scene and Homicide Units have taken charge of the investigation, piecing together the circumstances surrounding Saturday's shooting.

Authorities have chosen not to disclose the gender or identity of the victim, respecting the privacy and grieving process of the family.

Appolon was arrested on a manslaughter charge, with BSO revealing that the incident involved an "unattended firearm."

The relationship between Appolon and the victim, as well as the circumstances surrounding his presence in the home with a gun, remain undisclosed by authorities at this time.
