Boil Water Notice for Huge Area of Hillsborough County

TAMPA -- There's a precautionary boil notice for about 95 thousand Hillsborough County water customers south of state road 60 and east of I-75, including parts of Brandon, Bloomingdale, Riverview and Wimauma.

Hillsborough County says a power disruption caused a drop in pressure in that area Tuesday morning. Water resources director Lisa Rhea says the Lithia water treatment plant serves a large area in south-central county. Officials want to make sure that backflow from customers didn't introduce chemicals or other contaminants while the pressure was down.

Service has been restored, but the health department requires a precautionary notice when pressure goes down. Customers in the affected area should boil all tap water used for drinking, cooking, ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes, for one minute. Water should be run until clear for washing clothes.

The county will issue another notice once testing confirms the water is safe. Results are expected late Wednesday afternoon.

The affected area is bordered by State Road 60, I-75, Balm-Riverview Road, Balm-Wimauma Road, and CR 579.
