Clewiston, FL - A man is facing charges after attempting to rob an arcade with a BB gun, getting shot, and fleeing the scene before being arrested by Florida police.

The incident took place during the early hours of Saturday morning when officers from the Clewiston Police Department responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery at an arcade.

While investigating, police discovered that a masked man entered the arcade with a gun and ordered everyone to get on the ground.

However, an armed security guard fired a single shot at the suspect, causing him to flee the scene.

Officers conducted a search of the area and discovered a black BB gun, which is believed to have been used by the suspect during the robbery.

A few hours later, officers were called to a suspicious vehicle parked at an apartment complex, where they found a man slumped over the steering wheel.

The man drove off, leading police on a pursuit in a vehicle that was reportedly stolen.

After a brief chase, the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Chad Mitchell Waldrep, was apprehended by police.

During his arrest, Waldrep informed officers that he'd been shot earlier in the night and was suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back.

He was airlifted to the trauma center at Hendry Regional Medical Center.

Further evidence was collected during the investigation, linking Waldrep to the armed robbery at the arcade.

Once Waldrep is released from the hospital, he'll be charged with armed robbery with a weapon and fleeing police.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact Clewiston Police Department Detective Charles Williams at 863-983-1474.
