All Eyes On Tropics With A System Developing In The Gulf Of Mexico

Weather watchers have their eyes on a system in the Gulf of Mexico two months before the start of hurricane season. Chances of it developing into a full-blown tropical storm are limited because water temperatures are still too cool, but Florida Weather Center meteorologist Joe Lundberg says temperatures in the gulf are above normal for this time of year. He doesn't expect the system to be named, but he says it will bring heavy rains to the Florida Panhandle and parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama later this week. A tropical storm has developed in the Atlantic before the start of hurricane season but never in the Gulf of Mexico.
