Florida man with "Cop Killer" tattoo shoots at officer, caught hours later

Florida City, FL - A man with a large "Cop Killer" tattoo on his chest was arrested for firing shots at a police officer in Florida City.

The incident took place on Saturday morning when an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Northwest 7th Avenue and 2nd Street.

Instead of complying, the suspect, Virgilio Salgado, started shooting at the officer and his patrol car.

One shot hit the tire of the patrol car, disabling it, but the officer was able to escape unharmed.

Salgado fled the scene in a black Nissan Titan pickup truck, but was tracked down and arrested a few hours later by detectives.

Salgado faces several charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and criminal mischief.

He was ordered to be placed under house arrest with a $21,000 bond and faces an additional charge of habitual driving without a license.
