Governor DeSantis Favors State Control Of Disney's Reedy Creek District

During a visit to Central Florida Monday Governor Ron DeSantis talked about what's ahead for Walt Disney World's Reedy Creek Improvement District which state lawmakers voted to dissolve next year. Governor DeSantis says he'd like the state to take over control of the resort's private government.

"We are not going to be in a situation where we are just going to be giving them locally control," Governor DeSantis said at Seminole State College in Sanford. "More likely that the state will simply assume control and make sure that we're able to impose the law and make sure we're collecting the taxes."

The governor says state control could be beneficial for the district's workers.

"I look at these firefighters. I think these firefighters there should be making more money."

Governor DeSantis says if local governments were given control of the district they may be tempted to raise taxes.

During his visit to the college, Governor DeSantis announced that he has approved over $125 million for nursing education. That brings the total investment in workforce education funding since 2019 to more than $5 billion.
