MIAMI, FL – A former NBA player was killed during a shooting in Central Florida early Monday morning.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting around 1:30 a.m. Monday in Orlando.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found former NBA player Adreian Payne had been shot.

Payne was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say 29-year-old Lawrence Dority was present at the scene and was arrested on a first-degree murder warrant after homicide detectives interviewed him.

Payne played in 107 NBA games over four seasons with Atlanta, Minnesota and Orlando.

The Atlanta Hawks drafted him with the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Payne played professionally earlier this year for Juventus in Lithuania. He also played overseas in Turkey, France, Greece and China.

During his collegiate career, Payne started in 94 of 138 games over four seasons at Michigan State.

Michigan State great Magic Johnson remembered Payne with a post on social media, Tweeting ”our prayers and thoughts are with his family and Spartan Nation! Adreian will be sorely missed.”
