Rick Scott tells Brass the military is supposed to bring up the rear.

The chaotic U-S withdrawal from Afghanistan was the subject of a Senate hearing Tuesday featuring Pentagon leadership. Florida GOP Senator Rick Scott grilled Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

"When in the history of this country have we ever had the U-S military have a plan that we will take our military out first before we take out civilians," Sen. Scott said. "I can't imagine that."

Secretary Austin told Scott they continue to be engaged in trying to get those citizens out.

"Do you still believe that the most effective withdrawal strategy involves extracting the military, abandoning our military installations and reducing our use of force and ability to use force before we got our civilians out," Sen. Scott asked?

Secretary Austin told Scott the plan was to end our military operations, draw down our forces and retrograde all our equipment and that was accomplished.
