Coast Guard Searches For Pilot Of Small Plane That Went Down Near Boynton

The search is on for the pilot of a plane that crashed off the Palm Beach County coast.

They found the wreckage, but not the pilot.

The U.S.Coast Guard and several agencies have been searching the waters off the Boynton Beach Inlet since Sunday night when a single-engine Piper aircraft went down.

The FAA says the plane had taken off from the Palm Beach County Park Airport on its way to the Merritt Island Airport. Workers lost radar and radio contact with the 24-year old pilot just after 8 p.m.

A witness reported hearing a loud boom and watching the plane nose dive into the water.

The Coast Guard, in a Tweet, notes that the pilot was the only person on board.
