Judge: Car Data OK in Tampa Bayshore Crash Trial

TAMPA -- Prosecutors in the trial over a crash that killed a mother and child two years ago, will be able to use evidence seized from the onboard computer of one of the cars involved.

Judge Christopher Nash rejected a motion by lawyers representing Cameron Herrin and John Barrineau. The two men, both in their early twenties, are accused of vehicular homicide in the death of Jessica Reisinger-Raubenolt and her 21-month-old daughter, as they were crossing Bayshore Boulevard in May, 2018.

Prosecutors say the data shows a Ford Mustang was up to 102 miles per hour before the crash. They intend to argue that Herrin and Barrineau were racing on Bayshore.

Defense attorneys argued unsuccessfully that Tampa police overreached in their warrant and that other evidence, such as lack of skid marks, calls into question the notion that the crash occurred at high speed.

Trial is now expected to start with jury selection January 5, 2021.
