1 Million Coronavirus Cases Reported

More than 1 million people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Florida since the pandemic began, based on the state’s coronavirus pandemic report released Tuesday.

In reaching this inevitable milestone, Florida joins California and Texas with at least 1 million confirmed cases of the highly infectious disease since tallies began in early March.

Those states, which rank one and two ahead of Florida in population, reached the mark almost three weeks ago as the nation’s coronavirus outbreak worsened, records show. California now has 1.21 million cases, and Texas 1.16 million.

Florida reported 8,847 new cases Tuesday, for an updated total of 1,008,166 infections. Many of these people have recovered since receiving a positive test result at some point during the pandemic.
