Miami-Dade Commissioners Expected To Fill Seat Vacated By Mayor Cava

Miami-Dade Commissioners expected to fill the District 8 seat being vacated by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. This after a divided board votes 7-to-5 to appoint a new commissioner instead of holding a costly special election. Commissioner Joe Martinez says he will continue to fight for an election. The top contender for Mayor Cava's replacement is fellow Democrat Danielle Cohen Higgins, a lawyer whose campaign manager also ran Cava’s mayoral race. The other candidates include neighborhood activist Alicia Arellano and comission chairwoman Rebeca Sosa.
