2nd West Nile Case Found In Palm Beach County, Aerial Spraying Friday Night

The Florida Department of Health has confirmed a second human case of the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus in Palm Beach County.

The first case, which was announced as locally-acquired, came at the end of June and health officials say there's no link between that one and this second case.

The health department is advising residents to drain standing water and take other measures to ward off mosquitoes.

Palm Beach County Mosquito Control will be conducting aerial spraying tonight, beginning 30 minutes after sunset.

The spraying will cover approximately 280,000 acres west of Military Trail from West Boca to Wellington, The Acreage, Jupiter Farms and the Glades communities.

There have been more than 30 cases of West Nile in Miami-Dade County so far this year, including seven new cases confirmed this week.

Health officials say that most people infected don't feel sick, but about one in five will develop what's known as West Nile Fever, which may include a fever and other symptoms such as headache, pain, and fatigue.
