Financial Firm Wants to Bring 400 Jobs to Tampa Area

TAMPA -- A financial service firm with an office in Hillsborough County wants to bring in 400 new jobs, with an average wage around $60,000.

Hillsborough County commissioners will discuss whether the unnamed firm should get up to $240,000 in tax breaks for those jobs and a capital investment in the millions at Wednesday's meeting.

Steve Morey with the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council, says decades of recruiting companies such as Citi, JP Morgan Chase, U-S-A-A, and others continues to pay off. Morey says those businesses like the area's workforce quality and quality of life.

"(Firms) are going to the area that can supply a pipeline of talent but they're also going to need to (bring) talent in. They want to be in a place... that's got (attributes) from a quality of life standpoint," Morey said.

Morey says Hillsborough County has been working to bring those firms and jobs to the region for at least the past two decades.
