Case Of Meningitis Confirmed At Palm Beach State College

Red Emergency Sign at Hospital

The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County is confirming a case of bacterial meningitis at Palm Beach State College's Lake Worth campus.

A letter the department sent to the school on Wednesday said an "individual" on campus was diagnosed with the infection, but that there is no risk for the general population of the campus.

There is no recommendation for any students or faculty members to get antibiotics. That's because health officials worked closely with Palm Beach State College and identified all close contacts with the patient and none of them are associated with the school.

The college had first informed students and staff of the meningitis earlier this week and "restricted access" to certain areas of the campus. That is no longer the case.
