Pasco School Cop Fired Over Trigger Finger

WESLEY CHAPEL -- A school resource officer with a trigger finger loses his job. But he won't be charged.

Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco says the deputy, who wasn't named, fired a round into a cafeteria wall at Weightman Middle School April 30th. An internal affairs investigation revealed that a student had seen the deputy playing with his gun one at least prior occasion. Nocco says the deputy admitted he had a bad habit of "fidgeting with his gun." The deputy was fired as the investigation concluded.

No one was injured during the incident. Prosecutors declined to file charges.

Nocco said he reiterates with deputies that their firearms are not toys. "These things should only be pulled out or utilized, for training or deadly force (situations)," Nocco said.
