Florida Cities Rank High On Fastest-Growing List

WASHINGTON -- Three Florida cities make a new list of the fastest growing in the nation... population wise and economically. Two of Florida's largest cities make the top 10 list for cities with populations over 300,000, according to a report by personal finance site Wallethub.

Analyst Jill Gonzalez says Miami ranks second in the large cities category, behind only Austin, Texas. Tampa comes in 10th. The survey ranked more than 500 cities overall. It also ranked cities in three categories... large, midsize and smaller cities.

Gonzalez says Lehigh Acres, near Fort Myers, leads in both the overall and the midsize category. It was the nation's foreclosure capital during the Great Recession.

Nearby Fort Myers came in sixth overall, while Cape Coral landed in ninth place.

Gonzalez says factors included overall population growth, employment growth, and regional GDP (gross domestic product) per capita.
