Making Strides For Breast Cancer Walks Hit SoFla This Weekend

This Saturday, the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is taking place at both Marlins Park in Miami and at Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale.

The two events aim to unite communities, honor those touched by the disease during breast cancer awareness month, and raise awareness and funds for a world without breast cancer.

"It's really a moment... when the whole community comes together," says Alina Hudak, Chairperson for the Miami Making Strides walk. "It's a walk that's about the survivors and being there for survivors and education, prevention, -- making sure that we are educating our community about breast cancer and how easily it can be prevented by making sure that everyone is having a mammogram and being educated about early detection."

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, with more than 1 million passionate participants supporting the noncompetitive three- to five-mile walks each year.

Dollars raised help the American Cancer Society fund innovative breast cancer research; provide education and guidance to help people reduce their risk; and offer comprehensive patient support to those who need it most.

Registration for these noncompetitive, inspirational events begin at 7:00 a.m. and the walks are set to start at 8:00 a.m. in Broward and 9:00 a.m. in Miami.
