Wilton Manors Stonewall Parade & Festival Is Saturday

Broward's largest pride event is back for its 19th go-around.

The Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade and Festival is tomorrow.

The festivities begin with the festival at 4:00 p.m..

The parade steps off an hour later, but the party, with its four stages and various activities, will continue until 11:00 p.m..

Following worldwide terror and hate attacks, ensuring the safety of the more than 35,000 people expected to attend come at a price.

Wilton Manors Entertainment Group Chief Executive Officer Jeffery Sterling says, "so now we have more police, more protection on site, more intelligence gathering in advance, more hardening of the area - water barricades and vehicles parked at all outlets and parking lots."

To cover those additional costs, organizers are forced to charge a $5 entrance fee donation.

Along with honoring the start of the LGBT movement, Wilton Manors business owners celebrate the event as a one-day economic boom.

"A million dollars was spent directly in the city of Wilton Manors, which is quite a big deal for a city 1.96 square miles around.  It's $4-million of economic activity generated for the event," says Sterling.
