Takeaway #1: What Comes Next w/TPS
When the Supreme Court recently ruled that Temporary Protected Status does actually means temporary, (which should actually be about the least controversial thing, because I don’t know how anyone could misconstrue temporary to mean permanent), it set into motion a series of events that appears to be ready to come to a head this week. In January of 2010 approximately 350,000 Haitians were granted TPS to remain in the United States due to a major earthquake. Most recently it’s estimated that 330,000 of those Haitians remain in the United States. Yesterday was the deadline day for those having previously received TPS protections – which have now expired. What these means is that these are now 330,000 additional illegal aliens living within the United States. Of the 330,000 – about 158,000 are believed to be in Florida with the largest concentration Haitians between Miami and Palm Beach County. And this week is the week that ICE will start to detain those who’ve chosen to remain in the country illegally. That means there’s likely to be extensive ICE activities in many South Florida communities and GSS Newsers – are bound to be producing more woe-are-the-illegal-immigrant types of stories coming.

There were an estimated 50,000 Haitians granted TPS in Miami Dade with the highest concentration obviously being in the Little Haiti neighborhood at the time of the Supreme Court ruling. There were approximately 45,000 in Broward with an estimated 18,000 Haitians under TPS in Palm Beach County. These are obviously massive numbers, and it may well be the case that ICE/DHS are hoping that the onset of enforcement action locally will lead to most Haitians now living here illegally to leave willfully. The most TPS populated cities are North Miami, North Miami Beach and Miami Gardens in Miami Dade. In Broward: Miramar, Lauderhill, North Lauderdale and Fort Lauderdale are the most TPS populated cities, and in Palm Beach County it’s West Palm Beach, Rivera Beach and Lake Worth Beach with the largest Haitian TPS populations. Life is complicated, however, this issue isn’t. In life there’s always a right and a wrong way to do things. If Haitians who’ve lived and worked here for many years would like to become Americans citizens, they’re more than welcome to. All that’s required is that they abide by the law and undergo the process to become a naturalized citizen. That’s not and should never be considered too much to ask. There are many wonderful Haitians who’ve stayed in the U.S. under TPS. There are many who’d make great American citizens too. Importantly – that's what they should do. You don’t make America great again without immigrants turned American citizens. If immigration is simply a bunch of people from around the world without assimilation or legitimization, what would the future of this country be? What comes next with those on TPS should be going back home and starting the citizenship process lawfully – that's not an uncompassionate thing.
Takeaway #3: Media manipulation of Amendment 3
As always context is key and as I’ve extensively covered recently – your state and local legacy news media (with the exception of WPEC) has been throwing the kitchen sink at Amendment 3 in an effort to kill it. There’s seemingly nothing more that GSS Newers love than high taxes and big bloated government that they can then cover. Big, bloated governments come complete with politicians and officials that will grant them the access that they desire should the news outlet provide the news coverage that they desire. That’s the most common way that the game is played. One of last week's efforts to attempt to kill Amendment 3 included the manipulation of Rick Scott’s words to attempt to make it sound like he didn’t support it. This note that I received summed up the way the message was used... Hi Brian! I've listened to you daily for years, and love your analytical prowess. I was dumbfounded to hear a clip of Rick Scott being played every news cycle on WJNO saying that he doesn't think he will vote for Amendment 3 because of the budget shortfall it will have on Collier County...I believe he got this from a GSS News report that you mentioned this morning. Please have him on to set the record straight as we do not need those we respect trumpeting misinformation. I’d actually just had Senator Scott on the show the day before this “news” broke and I knew that Rick Scott fully intended to support Amendment 3 (I didn’t focus on the issue in my most recent interview with him because he’s a federal politician who’s not personally involved with Amendment 3). What Senator Scott said that was used to suggest he didn’t support Amendment 3 was that he was “worried” about potential impacts of Amendment 3 – however he never said he opposed it. And subsequently Senator Scott posted this on X to set the record straight: I support any tax or fee cut and I am going to be voting for it. The media wants to divide Republicans. It’s wrong. Republicans are debating the best ways to reduce spending and return more money to taxpayers. Meanwhile, Democrats want higher taxes, higher spending. They want a permanent gravy train. I know people are concerned with budget cuts in their counties and obviously no one wants to see critical services like fire, police, or schools cut. But I guarantee you every county has waste to cut. That’s just a fact. So every single county needs to go through and find all their waste and get rid of it. Families in Florida need this tax cut - the state has become increasingly unaffordable but we can’t lose critical services. That’s why these counties have to start getting rid of the junk. The question isn’t IF we should cut spending and return that money to Florida families. It’s HOW we do it. Republicans are fighting for common sense. Democrats are fighting for bloat, bureaucracy, and waste. And that as the Late Great Paul Harvey would have said is the rest of the story...
