Monday’s good news regarding new COVID-19 cases didn’t last. After having only 1,613 new cases reported on Monday by the Florida Department of Health, Tuesday appeared to reflect delayed reporting as 9,068 new cases were reported.

A total of 7.4 million Floridians have now been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes over 4.5 million Floridians who’ve now completed a vaccine series, including 510,247 Floridians who’ve received the now suspended Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Governor DeSantis has announced Florida will begin the process to permanently close the Piney Point wastewater reservoir on back of the recent breech which led to a state of emergency in the area. DeSantis is directing the Department of Environmental Protection to create a closure plan and is allocating $15.4 million in existing funds to treat the remaining reservoir water for the purpose of discharging it.
