This is a recap of some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. Over 4.3 million total votes have been recorded. Democrats have outvoted Republicans by 553,687 votes by mail. Republicans have outvoted Democrats by 90,913 early votes. Early voting continues from 7am-7pm daily through Sunday, November 1st. More voters have voted by mail already, than in the entirety of the 2016 election cycle. President Trump will early vote in-person tomorrow. He’ll return home to Mar-a-Lago tonight after rallies today at the Villages and Pensacola.
Moving on to other news, 5,557 new COVID cases were reported by the Florida Department of Health on Thursday. It’s the highest daily total since August 15th. We’re averaging about 700 more daily cases this week. On a related note, the FDA has issued a formal approval for the antiviral Remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19. It’s been available for use by physicians throughout the pandemic, however, the drug is the first to receive full approval as a treatment option. According to the National Institutes of Health, Remdesivir speeds recoveries by an average of ten days.
Lastly, South Florida’s real estate market remained red-hot in September according to the Florida Association of Realtors. Single-Family home sales rose by about 13% in Miami-Dade, 15% in Broward, and 29% in Palm Beach County. Prices also increased by double-digits year over year.
