American sprinter Christian Coleman, known for his prowess in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, has made a name for himself in the world of athletics. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Coleman's journey to success began at a young age. He set three state records and won four events at the Georgia High School State Championships, marking the start of his illustrious career.
Coleman continued his athletic journey at the University of Tennessee, where he won multiple gold medals and set record times. His outstanding performance earned him the Bowerman Award, an honor given to the most outstanding collegiate track and field athlete of the year. He was the first from Tennessee to receive this prestigious award.
The sprinter's professional career has been equally impressive. He is the current world champion in the 100 meters and holds personal records of 9.76 seconds for the 100 m and 19.85 for the 200 m. He also holds the world indoor record for the 60-meter dash with 6.34 seconds. Coleman was the IAAF Diamond League champion in 2018 and the world number one ranked runner in the 100 m for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Despite his fast-paced career, Coleman enjoys a slower pace off the track. He told KSLS Sports, "As a track athlete, you would think we do everything fast. But, the only time I’m ever moving full speed is on the track. To be so fast, you walk pretty slow. I feel like I’m conserving my energy."
Coleman has represented the United States in the Olympics twice. He first competed in the 2016 games for the U.S. 4 × 100 meters relay team. He was forced to miss the 2020 games due to a temporary suspension but has since returned to the track, ready to seize every opportunity that comes his way.
