Brewers Take Opener From Rays

The Milwaukee Brewers (59-50) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (58-51) 5-3 on Tuesday night in the first game of a short interleague series in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee got single runs in the first and second, but Yandy Diaz answered with a monster two-run homer to center field in the third to tie the game 2-2. The Brewers took the lead for good in the fifth, getting a RBI single from Andrew McCutchen and a two-run double from Kolten Wong to take a 5-2 lead.

Jose Siri drove in David Peralta in the seventh on a double in which he was thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple. That would make the score 5-3, which would be the final score.

Jimmy Yacabonis got the start as the opener and allowed only one unearned run in his inning of work. He gave way to Ryan Yarbrough (0-7, 5.08) who allowed three runs - all of them earned - on four hits in three and one-third inning of work that saw him strike out five and walk one.

The Rays now look to salvage a split in the second game of a short two-game series on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 1:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
