Miami Beach's Civilian Volunteer Patrol Makes Its Debut Tonight

Miami Beach's Civilian Volunteer Patrol team makes its debut tonight in a continued effort to crackdown on crime. Commissioner Steven Meiner says they have five recruits who have completed the 12-week Citizen Police Academy program. The volunteers will wear a city uniform, not a police one, and are in direct contact with dispatch to report suspicious activity or quality of life issues like vandalism or parking violations. Volunteers must be at least 21, city residents or business owners with no previous arrests.
