Broward County Has a New Mayor

The gavel changes hands in Broward County as Commissioners unanimously elect their next mayor. Outgoing Mayor Steve Geller passes the torch to Mayor Michael Udine who says his leadership theme is a healthy and sustainable Broward.

"We're all going to have to navigate the back side of one of the worst pandemics in our nation's history. We're going to have to deal with reopening, repositioning, and the safety of all of our respective stakeholders," said Udine. He says he wants to welcome the many companies interested in relocating here while continuing to embrace well established local businesses.

In a 5-to-4 vote, commissioners elected Lamar Fisher as Vice-Mayor.

Mayor Udine is set to drop the puck at tonight's Panthers-Islanders game at the FLA Live Arena.
