The Florida Legislature has released the first four proposed maps as part of the redistricting process resulting from the 2020 Census. All four maps somewhat closely mirror the state’s existing map with the new congressional district added in Central Florida as expected. The maps may be viewed on Floridaredistricting.gov. A new map will be decided in the state’s upcoming session which starts in January.

In other news, Governor DeSantis has rolled out his education proposal to be considered in the 2022 legislative session for the 2022-2023 school year. The plan includes record per-pupil funding and calls for $1,000 bonuses for teachers and principals once again.

On Wednesday, 1,446 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Florida, reaching a new milestone in the pandemic. The weekly trend for new cases is now 1,470 per day. That’s not only the lowest average this year, it’s the lowest average since June 12th of 2020.

Florida’s total unemployment filings are now the lowest they’ve been since March 15th, of last year. That was the first week of meaningful impact of the pandemic in Florida.
