Brightline Train Strikes Vehicle in Pompano

It was a stressful commute for Brightline President Patrick Goddard as he was headed to a press conference to celebrate the restart of high-speed rail service following a 17-month pandemic shutdown.

Instead of touting the ride, he assured the public all the equipment was working correctly.

"Everything operated as it was supposed to at our grade crossing. The gates were down. The bells were ringing. The lights were on," said Goddard.

That apparently didn't stop a 71 year old woman with a baby in the car from driving on to the tracks in Pompano. Goddard was among 53 passengers on board when the Southbound train from West Palm slammed into her SUV. Everyone on the train is OK, as is the baby. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
