Florida entered the week averaging 2,172 new COVID-19 cases. Florida’s currently among the five best states for having the fewest population-adjusted cases. A year ago, on the same date, Florida averaged over 5,500 cases daily. We entered the week with 2,251 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The Florida Hospital Association has declared that the COVID-19 Delta surge is over.

Governor DeSantis is actively recruiting law enforcement professionals and first responders laid off due to vaccine mandates in other states to Florida. In addition to employment, the Governor said he intends to sign legislation in the upcoming state session which would provide $5,000 bonuses to law enforcement professionals relocating to Florida from other states.

After a call by Governor DeSantis last week for ships to reroute to Florida’s ports to help ease the supply-chain crisis, the first ship from India has arrived at Port Everglades with another ship en route to Port Jacksonville. It appears there could be increased use of Florida’s ports going forward.
