Florida entered this week averaging the fewest COVID-19 cases since the first week of the Delta surge. Over the past week, there have only been 2,683 new COVID-19 cases. Florida’s cases have declined by 88% from peak levels. Dr. Thomas Unnasch of the University of South Florida said the state is at the end of the delta surge. As for hospitalizations for COVID-19 statewide, they have fallen below 3,000 entering this week. Hospitalizations have fallen 84% from peak levels.

In other news, South Florida state senator Annette Taddeo, Charlie Crist’s running mate from his failed 2014 bid for governor, is set to run against Charlie Crist for governor next year. Taddeo is expected to enter the Democratic primary today joining Crist and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.

Lastly, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has issued a warning about a text scam. According to FDOH texts are going out to Floridians with the note that you need to verify your driver’s license details and contain a link where you’re suggested to do so. According to the FDOH, they’ll never text asking for personal, medical, or driver's license information.
