People were forced to evacuate a Florida beach after residents found strange-looking land mines, WFTV reports.

The scary moment went down Thursday (September 9) after a mine, which looked like a badly eroded rock, was found against a sea wall in the South Beach area, according to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say a resident brought a second device cap back by road.

Residents and beachgoers left the area as a precaution as the bomb squads were called in, including the Air Force Bomb Squad, officials added.

"The Air Force Bomb Squad removed both land mines without incident. They will be taken to their base to destroy them," authorities wrote on Facebook. "Some residents were evacuated and have been given the all clear to return to their homes."

They didn't provide any more details on where the mines came from or their origins.

One of the biggest bomb-related stories of the year was when a Los Angeles bomb squad detonated an illegal cache of fireworks. This sparked a huge explosion that left over a dozen people injured.

There was also an incident at a South Florida airport where a woman falsely claimed there was a bomb on board a plane.
