Florida ended last week averaging just over 21,000 new COVID-19 cases, that's not much of a change compared to the prior week providing hope that new cases have plateaued. Meanwhile, Florida’s hospitals continued a steady decline in overall COVID-19 patients through the weekend. After peaking at over 17,800 hospitalizations over a week ago, there were 15,778 on Sunday.

Following Friday’s ruling striking down the Florida Board of Education’s parental opt-out for school mask mandates, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach County school districts are among those statewide which are set to begin considering enforcement action against students which violate the mandate to wear masks while indoors and not eating or drinking. The state is appealing the ruling.

If you’re in the market for a new furry friend, there are many that need new homes. Led by Broward’s Humane Society, dogs and cats evacuated from Louisiana shelters in advance of Hurricane Ida, have made their way to South Florida. Relocated animals will begin to be made available for adoption starting tomorrow.
