Eviction notice on door of house

After posting a new high for COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, new cases backed off a bit on Thursday with 21,183 new cases reported. That’s 3,400 fewer cases than the previous Thursday and helped resume a slightly declining trend of new cases. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 declined as well, falling to 16,833. It’s the first time hospitalizations have been below 17,000 since last week.

In other news, after the Supreme Court ruled the CDC’s eviction moratorium is unconstitutional for a second time, evictions are able to resume immediately. Over 22,400 eviction filings are currently pending in Florida. That's about half of which are expected to result in actual evictions.

Lastly, a ruling in the trial brought by parents challenging the Florida Board of Education’s rule mandating parental opt-outs for school mask mandates is expected just after 10:00 am. Violating school districts and Governor DeSantis have both held off on issuing penalties for those offending policies while they’ve waited on a decision in this case. It’s likely more legal action will result from whichever side isn’t successful in today’s ruling.
