(Miami, FL) -- Tropical Storm Fred could impact South Florida and the Keys by the end of the week. The storm is expected to hit the Dominican Republic today after bringing drenching rains to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
The maximum sustained winds are about 40 miles per hour. The system is moving slowly and is expected to continue a western path over the next several days.
South Florida and the Keys may be in Fred's path Friday and Saturday.
From there, the tropical storm could spread north this weekend through the peninsula and up to the Panhandle early Monday morning.
