According to CDC data, approximately 17,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported each of the past three days. Florida’s weekly trend for daily cases has risen to a new pandemic high of 17,600. That’s about two thousand daily cases higher than the previous peak in January. Florida’s hospitalizations reached a new high on Tuesday as over 11,500 Floridians are now hospitalized due to COVID-19 of which 2,400 are in intensive care. Half of all hospitalizations are people under 55 and 96% are unvaccinated.

In other news, the new eviction moratorium signed by the CDC on Tuesday, extending the moratorium to October 3rd, applies to all of Florida’s counties as all are experiencing “substantial”, levels of COVID-19 spread.

Finally, two school boards voted to challenge Governor DeSantis’s executive order banning mask mandates in Florida’s schools. The Alachua and Duval County School Districts voted to implement mask mandates for the start of the school year.
