Students at Florida A&M University got a nice surprise over the weekend as President Dr. Larry Robinson announced that the HBCU spent more than $16 million dollars to erase students’ unpaid fees, tuition, and balances during the 2020-2021 school year. The announcement happened during the first of four in-person graduation ceremonies held in the school's auditorium.
During one of the commencement ceremonies, Dr. Robinson told students, “I want you to understand how important it is to us allowing you to go out into the world and get off to a much better start than you might have otherwise.”
According to Congressman Al Lawson, FAMU received more than $13 million in emergency funding from the Biden administration’s CARES Act. This money is meant to help students and colleges alleviate debt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the CARES Act funds, the university received a portion of the $1 billion dedicated to Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
