Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.

  • Governor DeSantis signed multiple bills into law on Wednesday including...a bill aimed at making it harder for you to become a victim of credit card skimming at gas pumps. Under the law which takes effect July 1st, gas station operators will have to provide a minimum of two security devices on pumps to curtail the abuse of skimmers and use pressure sensitive security tape at pumps. Additionally, all breaches at gas pumps will have to have to be reported to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
  • The Domestic Violence Centers bill was also signed into law. Effective July 1st, it will be illegal to disclosure any information which identifies the location of domestic violence centers. This includes images posted online. 
  • Another new law will create a new Purple Alert system. Effective July 1st of next year, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will activate a new alert for at risk adults which are suffering from mental or physical disabilities. The alert will be similar in execution to Amber and silver alerts. 
  • Governor DeSantis also signed the least controversial auto insurancebill into law. Effective July 1st families will be able to specifically exclude certain family members from auto insurance policies in an effort to lower insurance premiums for families.
