Florida News That Impact You – June 4th, 2021

Thursday is typically the peak day for new COVID-19 cases, only 1,878 new cases were reported by the Florida Department of Health. Florida's weekly trend for cases fell to 1,627 daily cases. Moving on to vaccines, 10.4 million Floridians have been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Furthermore, 8.4 million have completed a vaccine series.

In other news, mediation between the state of Florida, the Biden administration, and the CDC over the CDC’s “no sail” order has failed. The mediation was ordered by a federal judge after Florida’s lawsuit contesting the CDC’s authority to issue “no sail” orders. This sets up a legal showdown in court between Florida and the CDC.

Lastly, Governor DeSantis announced the 2021 “Python Challenge” to remove Burmese pythons from the Everglades will take place from July 9th - July 18th. Winners in various challenges can receive up to $2500. While hunting pythons is legal year-round in Florida, the challenge is the only sanctioned activity that allows non-Floridians to participate.
