Heading into Memorial Day weekend, Florida’s trend of new COVID-19 cases is the lowest it’s been since the beginning of October. Only 2,338 new cases were reported by the Florida Department of Health on Thursday. Furthermore, nearly 10.2 million Floridians have now been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes over 8.1 million who’ve completed a vaccine series. Meaning that 55% of adults have been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a vaccine.
In other news, a lawsuit has been filed by attorney’s representing the Computer & Communications Industry Association and NetChoice against Florida’s “Big Tech Law”. Both entities are technology lobbying firms. The law mandates transparent, posted, guidelines for community standards that would lead a platform to censor or de-platform users. It mandates the standards be applied equally to all users. Under the law, Floridians would be able to sue for up to $100,000 if they feel they’ve been unfairly treated by companies. In addition, the state would be able to fine companies up to $250,000 per day per offense. A legal challenge was anticipated by the state.
Lastly, Florida’s Disaster Preparedness sales tax holiday starts today and runs through June 6th. Items included are Portable generators, tarps and related supplies, power banks, coolers, fuel containers, batteries, radios, flashlights, lanterns, candles & ice packs.
