Florida News That Impact You – May 14th, 2021

Florida’s trend for new COVID-19 cases continued to decrease for a 23rd consecutive day with 4,064 new cases reported by the Florida Department of Health. About 54% of Florida’s adult population, have now been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a vaccine. Nearly 6.7 million have completed a vaccine series. 

In other news, “To Go” alcohol sales will be allowed to continue for restaurants post-pandemic. Governor DeSantis signed the “to-go” bill into law yesterday. Under the new law, alcohol to go will be able to be sold in secure containers stored in areas of a vehicle not accessible to the driver.

Following the CDC’s revised mask guidelines for fully vaccinated people, Disney and Universal announced they’re dropping temperature checks at their Orlando theme parks starting Sunday.

Lastly, FPL has completed the next phase of its 2030 solar project to derive 20% of its power from solar. The solar project is the largest in the country. FPL opened its fifth solar energy center in DeSoto County on Thursday. The Rodeo Solar Energy Center is comprised of nearly 285,000 solar panels, which are enough to power about 15,000 homes. Approximately 5% of FPL’s energy supply is now derived from solar.
