Florida’s trend for COVID-19 cases continued to improve through the weekend. Florida enters this week averaging 5,669 daily cases over the past week. That’s an improvement of over a thousand cases per day over a week ago. On the vaccine front, over 8.5 million Floridians have been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, this includes over 5.75 million who’ve completed a vaccine series.
On a related note, after the CDC’s review panel recommended a resumption of vaccinations with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the vaccine is once again available in Florida. Publix is among the administrators offering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. All FEMA-operated sites are also switching back to the J&J vaccine offering 3,000 vaccinations daily at each site.
Lastly, this is the final week of this year’s state legislative session. The budget will take top priority as it’s the only mandate of the legislature. However, there will be a special session called in May for the purpose of addressing the state’s gaming laws following Governor DeSantis’s deal with the Seminole tribe on Friday. The deal would bring sports gaming to Florida with the Seminoles having complete oversight statewide.
