Florida News That Impact You – April 23rd, 2021

After a month-long increase in coronavirus cases coinciding with Spring Break schedules, Florida’s COVID-19 trend improved for a third straight day. That's an improvement of about 200 cases per day over a week ago.

On a related note, 10% of Florida’s population has now tested positive for COVID-19 as 2.15 million Floridians have tested positive for the coronavirus since the onset of the pandemic. There have been 34,712 deaths attributed to the virus, approximately 1.6% of all Floridians diagnosed with the virus have died.

Over 8.3 million Floridians have been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes over 5.4 million who’ve now completed a vaccine series.

Politico is reporting a deal between Governor DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe regarding gaming has been reached and is pending legal review. If true, it’s expected this would settle the Seminole Compact and would bring sports betting to Florida. In 2019 DeSantis and tribal leaders were rumored to have been close to a deal prior to the end of the session.
