Florida News That Impact You – April 14th, 2021

On back of the FDA and CDC’s recommendation to pause use of the Johnson & Johnson one dose vaccine, all scheduled appointments for the J&J vaccine, regardless of administrator in Florida have been postponed. This includes Publix, however, they will be opening its portal today for Moderna appointments in parts of the state where vaccine demand has been soft.

Monday’s good news regarding new COVID-19 cases didn’t last. After having only 1,613 new cases reported on Monday by the Florida Department of Health, Tuesday appeared to reflect delayed reporting as 9,068 new cases were reported.

A total of 7.4 million Floridians have now been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes over 4.5 million Floridians who’ve now completed a vaccine series, including 510,247 Floridians who’ve received the now suspended Johnson & Johnson vaccine. 

Governor DeSantis has announced Florida will begin the process to permanently close the Piney Point wastewater reservoir on back of the recent breech which led to a state of emergency in the area. DeSantis is directing the Department of Environmental Protection to create a closure plan and is allocating $15.4 million in existing funds to treat the remaining reservoir water for the purpose of discharging it.
