Miami Hires Houston's Top Cop as New Police Chief

Art Acevedo

(Miami, FL) -- Miami is hiring the Tom Brady or Michael Jordan of police chiefs.

That's what Mayor Francis Suarez tells the Miami Herald about Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, who will be introduced as the new chief today.

The 56-year-old was born in Cuba, was chief of the California Highway Patrol and Austin, Texas Police chief before going to Houston to lead one of the country's largest police departments.

Acevedo leaves that department after four years to replace Jorge Colina, who retired last month after three years.
