New study, same result.
While thousands of South Floridians continue to keep their kids out of classrooms, theoretically for their safety, and while teacher's unions are still attempting to prevent classroom education in states that aren’t as well run as ours, School closures are not largely beneficial in preventing serious COVID-19 cases.That’s the summation statement from the latest study regarding the spread of COVID-19 at schools.
According to the study, schools weren’t the only public spaces that isn't a super spreader. The study conducted by the America Institute of Physics found schools closures haven’t significantly reduced the number of infections or deaths related to COVID-19. The study found social distancing is generally the most effective way to stop the spread of COVID-19 but that people of all ages are generally more careful when in public spaces around others compared to being at home.
This dynamic helps explain why for example, in Florida, the infection rate for children being virtually educated has been higher for than those attending classroom education. Beyond the classroom, the study reveals the importance of the use of public spaces and demonstrates most people will be considerate of others given the opportunity. It fits hand in glove with what previous research has consistently shown. That lockdowns aren’t effective. But now we know a bit more about why that’s the case.
