Florida’s coronavirus trends continued to improve Thursday with just over 7,700 new diagnosed cases reported by the Florida Department of Health. Florida’s weekly trend for cases peaked on January 10th with around 16,000 daily cases. Over the past week, Florida’s averaging 9,200 cases – the lowest since December 5th. However...

Florida continues to struggle to obtain first dose COVID vaccines. For the fifth consecutive day, Florida had more second dose administrations than first doses. Florida’s peak day for first doses was January 22nd when over 97,000 first doses were administered. Florida has averaged only 19,000 first doses daily this week. A total of 1.84 million Floridians have received the first dose while 478,236 Floridians have completed the two-dose schedule.

Publix, Winn-Dixie, and Walmart pharmacies will join the federal government's vaccination program next week. This will enable the pharmacies to receive the Pfizer vaccine through the federal program in addition to the state distributed Moderna vaccine.

One of the companies which contributed to the opioid crisis in Florida, McKinzey & Company, will pay Florida $40 million for its role in the opioid crisis. McKinzey was involved in what the state believed to be deceptive marketing practices. AG Moody said: While securing these funds is a great win for Florida, our work is far from over, and I remain committed to fighting tooth and nail, both inside and outside the courtroom, to stop the death and destruction inflicted on Florida families by opioid abuse.
