Florida is continuing to receive far fewer first vaccine doses than we’d received in prior weeks. Wednesday marked the fourth consecutive day the state fell short of Governor DeSantis's minimum goal of 60,000 vaccinations daily. Fewer than 18,000 first doses were available to be administered. Florida’s peak day for vaccinations was January 22nd with more than 103,000 vaccinations taking place. My current estimated capacity for Florida’s daily vaccination program stands at 250,000 doses.
State officials are advising all Floridians who are scheduled for 2nd vaccine doses to arrive within 30 minutes of their scheduled time. Widespread reports of bottlenecks are being reported at vaccination sites in part due to those scheduled to receive second doses reporting well in advance of their scheduled time. All second vaccination doses are accounted for in Florida for all who’ve received the first dose.
According to a new report from The Florida Division of Emergency Management, only 36% of Florida’s nursing home employees have opted to be vaccinated, of which 34% have received their vaccinations. The same report showed 68% of nursing home residents opted for vaccines – roughly in line with the original state estimates.
